Veteran Murfreesboro Police Department officer Trey Mansfield officially announces his candidacy for Rutherford County Sheriff, pledging meaningful reform, strong accountability, and renewed public trust in the Sheriff’s Office.

With more than 33 years of law enforcement experience, Mansfield brings firsthand knowledge of police leadership, modern policing, patrol operations, K-9 handling, SWAT service, and community-focused law enforcement. His campaign is centered on restoring professionalism, strengthening public safety outcomes, and ensuring the Sheriff’s Office operates at the highest legal and ethical standards.

“Rutherford County deserves a Sheriff who understands law enforcement from the ground up and who is ready to lead with integrity, transparency, and courage,” Mansfield said. “After more than three decades in law enforcement, I know what works and I know where we must do better.”

Mansfield’s platform is built around three core priorities:

  • Community Safety—strengthening drug prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation
  • Comprehensive School & Child Safety—enhancing the School Resource Officer program, expanding child advocacy services, advancing drug-prevention initiatives and aggressively targeting child sex predators
  • Jail Reform—bringing the county jail into full legal compliance, improving operations, and reducing costly litigation

“The Sheriff sets the tone for every part of the office, from the jail to our neighborhoods to our schools,” Mansfield added. “We need a serious reset. We need fresh leadership that is proactive, professional, and accountable. We need a leader that works with all law enforcement partners serving Rutherford County. I’m running to deliver that leadership.”

Mansfield describes himself as an independent, reform-minded candidate focused on results, not politics.

“I am not tied to insider politics,” Mansfield said. “As Sheriff, I will run this office with transparency, firm accountability, and respect for both the law and the people we serve.”

A longtime Rutherford County resident, Mansfield is known for his strong work ethic, conservative values, and belief that safer communities are built through firm, fair, and professional law enforcement.

“Every campaign talks about integrity and transparency,” Mansfield said. “For me, those aren’t slogans. They’ve guided my entire career, and they will guide me every day as your Sheriff.”
